With more than three decades of experience shaping some of Charleston’s most notable communities, Matt Sloan has played a defining role in the region’s real estate and development landscape. His career began in real estate consulting and took a pivotal turn in 1991, when - while representing the Guggenheim family as a project manager - he joined the team that helped bring life to the original, visionary master plan for Daniel Island.

Sloan later became the Managing Partner of the investment group responsible for Daniel Island’s development, where he oversaw all aspects of development, marketing and sales. Under his leadership, Daniel Island evolved from a former private reserve into a nationally recognized, award-winning master-planned community, earning the Urban Land Institute’s Award for Excellence and reaching full realization over the course of two decades.

Building on that success, Sloan led the acquisition, entitlement, development and eventual sale of the highly successful Carnes Crossroads community in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

As Founder, President and CEO of DI Development Company, Sloan guided development at Point Hope from 2010 through 2026 - an ambitious, nature-forward community emerging on the historic 9,000-acre Cainhoy property in Charleston. In this role, he directed day-to-day development efforts, including long-range planning, entitlements, permitting, infrastructure, amenities, builder relationships and marketing strategy, navigating one of the region’s most complex entitlement processes. He continues to support ownership in an advisory consulting capacity.

A graduate of Columbia University and a longtime member of the Urban Land Institute, Sloan has also been deeply engaged in the Charleston community. He has served on the boards of numerous local nonprofit organizations, including the Roper Foundation, Cannon Street YMCA, Charleston Regional Development Alliance and Porter-Gaud School.
